DEGRADED STORMWATER DRAIN AT AIRPORT CAUSES SUBSIDENCE

Initial assessment and excavation of the hole showed the underground area was eroded due to a failed corrugated stormwater drain that was full of large debris including rocks and general earth materials.

Tropical Cyclone Dovi -Orange Alert

DAMAGING SURF developing from Friday, particularly about the northern coast of the island. Seas becoming very rough with large waves. EMNI has moved the Cyclone Alert to Orange under the Cyclone Alert Action Plan.

EMNI Tropical Cyclone Dovi YELLOW ALERT

The cyclone is currently a category 1 cyclone (the lowest intensity) but may intensify to a Category 2 cyclone by the time it passes the island. Gale force winds are expected but at this stage the expectation is that it will not be accompanied by heavy rain.

CONVICT-ERA HANDCUFFS DISCOVERED AT QUEENSLAND MUSEUM

A visit to the Queensland Museum in Brisbane late last year by Museum staff member, Sallie Davie, turned up some interesting finds. Conservator, Judith Hickson, delved into their archives and found a set of convict leg irons and a pair of handcuffs from Norfolk Island.
