Tropical Cyclone Green alert

08 February 2023

The Bureau of Meteorology has advised us of a tropical low in the northern Coral Sea.

There is a high chance the tropical low will develop into a tropical cyclone later today, and it is expected to strengthen further on Thursday.

The system is forecast to track near Norfolk Island over the weekend.

EMNI has met today and has decided to activate the island’s Cyclone response plan in case the cyclone develops and continues to track towards the island. Currently this is a green alert under the Cyclone Warning Alert Action plan that can be found on the Emergency Management page of the council’s website.

The community is advised to familiarise themselves with the alert levels and consider what action they will take if the cyclone threat is continuing.

EMNI will be meeting daily and will provide updates on the potential cyclones progress through local radio and the Council’s Facebook page.
