Training Day for new Emergency Services Volunteers

06 October 2021

The Red Cross Emergency Services Volunteers Team is holding a training day for new recruits to join our team on Saturday 23 October from 9.30 AM – 5.30 PM. If you would like to become a member of the local team supporting our community as it prepares for, responds to and recovers from local emergencies or disasters, come along and start the journey with Red Cross.

Training as an ESV involves completing this mandatory course in Psychological First Aid, followed by attending monthly team “skill drills” and bi-monthly half-day training workshops. As an ESV team member, you will learn basic skills in helping people cope emotionally during critical events. Training is based on the latest research into the effects of trauma on individuals, families, and communities. We use a variety of Red Cross packages to deliver community education programs to help our community get ready for any events disrupting our daily lives, such as severe weather events or man-made disasters. Training includes learning how to set up and manage a community evacuation centre, how to support people seeking shelter, and providing outreach after an event. Additional training packages focus on specific skills such as helping children and vulnerable people, understanding collective trauma, and preparing for climate change. In addition, we learn how Red Cross works with state-based disaster management services as well as our local frontline responders.

We have places for 6 new recruits on our team so please contact Kate Lemerle (Team Leader) on 52112 or email bushtucka@iinet.net.au if you would like to register for this free training day.
