03 November 2022

This week’s Total Lunar Eclipse for Norfolk Island is on 8-9 November 2022. I hope the skies are clear on Tuesday night, 8 November, for the Total Lunar Eclipse. It will be an exciting event for Norfolk Island for everyone !!!!.

I have checked out the internet and the approximate time for Friday evening, fingers crossed we get to see the Lunar Eclipse.

Lunar eclipses are safe to view with the unaided eye. Binoculars and telescopes enhance the view, but aren’t required. The November 8, 2022, total lunar eclipse will be visible across Asia, Australia, the Americas and the Pacific. It’ll be early morning for North America.

This week I am away in New Zealand, so I may miss watching all of the eclipse as New Zealand total eclipse is around midnight, plus there will be more light pollution which may spoil the view we are privileged to have on Norfolk Island.

In May last year I photographed the Lunar Eclipse but had issues with dew on my camera lens. In 2014 I managed to capture the entire Full Eclipse which was very rewarding, and I entered my photographs in an astronomical competition in New Zealand and was rewarded with a prize.

Check out this link for information about the eclipse and at the end of the article is information about how to take photos of a lunar eclipse, which you can also post to their New Zealand astronomy page.
