The Ferny Lane Theatre opens their doors this weekend and next weekend to give us a glimpse of the hilarious sleepy village of Dibley. Initially a TV series, this play brings to life the idiosyncrasies of the parish members led by the pompous chairman David Horton (Teddy Evans). The indecisive Jim Trott (Ken Christian) keeps us on the edge of our seats as he rattles off a string of ‘no, no, no’ before every sentence, while the straight-talking farmer Owen Newitt (Jeff Fry) calls ‘a spade a spade’ (in unprintable words). Mrs. Cropley, (Bev Buffett) keeps us amused with delicious concoctions, and unusual flower arrangement ideas. The pedantic Frank Pickle (Peter Hughson) keeps the council minutes in his own particular amusing way and reveals his worrying thoughts. Hugo Horton (Tony Wilkinson) and verger, Alice Tinker (Katherine Lance), keep us tickled with their simple (and complicated!) view of life and romance. The Vicar, Geraldine Granger (Katrina Peal), navigates her way through her new parish to keep order and some sense of sanity giving us a laugh at every turn.
The stage performance has been directed by Siebren de Boer and Trish Natoli has kept everyone on track for practice times. The production is the first for Bev Buffett, and includes three school teachers as well. Dawn French, who acted in the TV series as the Vicar, is on tour in Australia and has also been invited. Here’s hoping we can brush with some fame !!
