Surfers and Board Riders Competition Boxing Day 2023

29 December 2023

Boxing day was a hive of activity downtown in Kingston. Hundreds of locals and visitors gathered and enjoyed a warm sunny day watching the surfers and board riders take on the challenge of surfing the waves in the bay.

The outer reef is only about 150 metres out from the shore and the surfers and board riders competed on the waves that form on the reef’s edge. The waves looked moderate size on Tuesday, and I am sure the competitors enjoyed their day on and in the water.

The area at Munnas was set up with shade tents and music and sound systems to keep the crowd up to date. There must have been hundreds of people enjoying their day down the beach with their family and friends. There were many cars parked along the water’s edge and grassed areas.

The competitions started a couple of weeks ago on Saturday 16 December and continued on Boxing Day at Kingston area out from

Munnas, not far from the Kingston Pier, which is where I took a few photographs later in the afternoon.

The organisers had a busy day, and I am sure that everyone enjoyed the day down at Munnas celebrating a successful Norfolk Island event.

I did not attend the event on Boxing Day, as I was snorkelling in the Bay, so at this stage I do not know the names of the winners.

Thank you to the organisers for putting together a great Norfolk Island event and I am sure the surfers and board riders all had a fantastic day.
