St John - Norfolk Island

31 May 2023

St John Norfolk Island has a volunteer staff of 18 members who fulfil a 24/7 on-call, First Responder Service to the Norfolk Island Community. The ambulance service is free of charge to all members of the community and to all visitors. St John Norfolk Island is a division of St John NSW, we are supported with training and governance by St John NSW, and adhere to their clinical care guidelines.

When you call for an ambulance, your first point of contact is the triage nurse at NIHRACS, please be as specific as possible with the information you provide to the triage nurse, information such as the nature of the incident, how many people injured, and the seriousness of injuries will help us get you the best possible care in the timeliest fashion.

It is important also, that as St John volunteers, our role isn’t to police or to judge, our whole purpose is to make sure everyone is safe and to offer help to those who want it. This is just as important for our younger community members. As a young person, if you do have an accident, or feel that you need assistance, please know that we are here to help whatever the situation. If your mate looks a bit groggy, and you are worried about them, call mum or dad, or call the hospital; more than anything else, it matters that everyone is safe.

St John Norfolk Island provides support to community events throughout the year, assists with medevacs and patient transfers. If you would like St John present at your next community event, please contact us to request support. We are always looking for new members to join our team, training to an Advanced First Aid and Advanced Resuscitation skill set is provided to all members.
