The Soup-Pot Garden and Food Pantry would like to thank everyone who donated funds, non-perishables, or fresh produce last month. It's your generosity that keeps us going. We've even had some generous donations from some lovely tourists just before leaving the island. We've taken the donations pot away from the Foodland Mall for a bit, but would like to thank Pam Nobbs again for allowing us to keep it there while Covid and the weather has made it challenging to hold fundraising events.
While the hot & humid weather hasn't been very conducive to standing over giant pots of soup, we have made some small batches of fresh roasted pumpkin soup and a pot of irish stew with some donated pumpkins and corned beef to keep the freezer topped-up. We're still putting together 4-5 food parcels a week for individuals or families in need, and have been grateful to be able to include some generous donations of Melaleuca Pasture-Raised eggs. Thank you to Rebecca Gupte for your donations!
Now that it looks like the heat, humidity and rains may be less ever-present, we are starting to plan our next Soup-Pot fundraising night in April. Hopefully the evenings cool down for us to want to enjoy a bowl or two! We have our next Celebrity Chef lined up, and are thinking about changing things up and taking the event to a local venue in town. Watch this space for more details as they are organized.
If you'ld like to donate to the Food Pantry, a covered bin is placed just inside our front garden gate at 63 Mission Rd. Items like pasta, sauces, Wheetbix, cereals, long-life milk, cans of beans or fruit are always appreciated. For more information, or to arrange a food parcel for you or a loved one, contact Shawn on ph. 52500 or at shawnstormann@yahoo.com.
