Minister for Regional Development, Territories and Local Government Kristy McBain has reappointed three Magistrates for the Norfolk Island Court of Petty Sessions.
Mr Hamish Martin, Mr Brian McGrath and Ms Maureen Tavener have been appointed for another three-year period from 1 October 2024 to 30 September 2027.
The Court will continue to operate effectively with the three Magistrates, working under the general direction of the Chief Magistrate Wendy Cull.
As Norfolk Island residents, the Magistrates play an important role in the operation of the Court by providing advice and insight into local values and expectations on justice and criminal punishment.
We congratulate Mr Martin, Mr McGrath and Ms Tavener on their reappointment, and look forward to their continued service to the Norfolk Island community through the Court, maintaining the delivery of justice services on island.
We also thank outgoing Magistrate, Ms Melissa Ward, for her service as a Magistrate since 2018, which has been a much-valued, exemplary contribution to the Court and the community.
