Qantas makes presentation at Council Meeting

28 November 2025

At the 27 November 2025 Ordinary Meeting of Council, Mr Adam Humphries, Regional Sales and Development Manager from Qantas Airways Limited, presented on the possibility of an Auckland to Norfolk Island route.

In March 2025, New Zealand Connection Operational NIRC, led by Lead Administrator Mr Scott Mason, engaged with the local tourism industry in forming a business case for a renewed airline connection from New Zealand to Norfolk Island. This was presented to Qantas in March 2025.

Lead Administrator Scott Mason requested a follow up meeting with Qantas to discuss the business case and the possibility for an Auckland to Norfolk Island route.

At the Council Meeting yesterday, Mr Humphries spoke on the matters of:

How Qantas assessed the different options and routes based on the business case

Why the Auckland to Norfolk Island route is not financially viable at this stage without significant financial support

Fare tariff changes have been made to make it easier and more efficient to book a through-fare to Norfolk Island from New Zealand via Sydney or Brisbane.

Mr Humphries also responded to questions from the Administrators and community members in the gallery on freight, tourism and promotion opportunities.
