Progress on General Manager recruitment and draft relocation and rent assistance policy

28 November 2025

At the 27 November 2025 Ordinary Council Meeting, Norfolk Island Regional Council (NIRC) reported on its progress in recruiting a General Manager and resolved to place a draft Relocation and Rent Assistance Policy (General Manager) on public exhibition.

Applications for the General Manager role closed on Monday 17 November 2025, with a strong response of 33 candidates. A selection advisory panel convened and met on Monday 24 November 2025 to shortlist applicants for interview.

NIRC has also prepared a draft Relocation and Rent Assistance Policy (General Manager) for public exhibition for 28 days from 28 November 2025 to 27 December 2025. The purpose of this policy is to outline the eligibility requirements and entitlements available should the successful General Manager not currently reside on the island and may need to relocate to Norfolk Island to undertake employment with NIRC.

The policy aims to strengthen NIRC’s Employee Value Proposition and encourage the best possible candidates to apply for the position, no matter where they are based. Applicants were advised the position would be based on island.

The Acting General Manager, Scott Hackney, will report back to the next Ordinary Council Meeting after the period of public exhibition closes with a report on submissions received and a recommendation relating to the Relocation and Rent Assistance Policy (General Manager).

Exhibition materials are available for viewing at the Public Exhibition page on the Council website.
