Preparing for New Governance arrangements

20 February 2025

~ Expressions of Interest Invited~

The Commonwealth of Australia is expecting that a new government of some kind will be established by the end of 2025 if not earlier.

A "new government" will require candidates to stand as elected representatives and candidates for positions in the public service.

Many Island residents have the skills to fill these positions but may lack confidence. Many Island residents with extensive experience in the business sector could apply those skills in the public sector, given adequate training in public administration.

The Knowledge and Learning Centre (KLC) aims to hold "capacity-building briefings" throughout 2025 to ensure that the Island can bring forward fields of strong candidates for public office and can demonstrate to the external authorities that the Island is ready, willing and competent to govern itself. The briefings will be free of charge and attendees will be entitled to certificates of attendance that will strengthen their resumes.

The first briefing will be held at the Knowledge and Learning Centre, 70 Taylors Road, on one evening in the first week of March. Watch out for an advertisement next week. It will discuss subjects to be covered in the series, potential presenters available on Island and preferred meeting times.

The second briefing will be held in the following week and will include a presentation on “serving the public interest”, which is the basic purpose of a government.

You are invited to express your interest in attending and preferred day/time in the week. (Mondays 4pm – 6pm each week are unavailable). Further inquiries or offers to serve as a presenter – write to secretary@knowledgecentre.nf or phone 52150.
