Shortly before 3pm on Wednesday reports were received that someone had been washed out to sea from Emily Bay.
Luckily, the new AFP boat, Blue Nanwi, was on the water conducting some training near Cascade Pier. The boat went to the area near Emily Bay and found the woman being kept afloat by a local and his paddleboard.
NIPF members took the female on board and transported her to Cascade Pier where she was seen to by St. John’s Ambulance members. The young lady is fine. It was discovered that she was walking on the reef when a wave surprised her and washed her into the water and out to sea.
The NIPF would like to thank the people on the paddleboards who helped and also the other locals who were in the process of lowering their boat into the water to help. We would also like to use this as a timely warning to swimmers to be very careful and pay attention to what is going on around them. Emily and Slaughter Bay are great swimming spots but can also be very dangerous. We are glad that everyone is okay after yesterday’s incident.
