There was a vehicle collision about 1:00pm on Friday, 28 April in the Foodlands Carpark. An unknown vehicle has collided with the front left side of a burgundy coloured Suzuki Swift, and left the scene without stopping to leave their details. There was blue paint transferred to the Swift from the offending vehicle. If anyone witnessed the collision or has any information could they please provide it to Police.
I’ll take this opportunity to remind people of their obligations in the event of a vehicle collision.
When a collision occurs, the drivers of each vehicle are required to stop, produce to each other their driver license, and exchange their name and address, the vehicle registration number and if not them, the name and address of the owner of the vehicle. If the damage appears it will cost over $500 to repair, or if anyone is injured as a result of the collision, it must be reported to Police within 24 hours. In the event someone is injured or killed in a vehicle collision, the driver of each vehicle must remain at the scene and give any assistance in their power to give to the injured person. The fines for failing to follow these obligations range from $300 to $1500 depending on the circumstances.
I’d also like to request that parents speak to their children about their conduct on electric scooters and skateboards. We’ve received complaints of children going through town on sidewalks near pedestrians and on the road at what were perceived to be high speeds, as well as up and down Taylors Road through the steep windy section in the centre of the road. Please remember that the children riding these are likely too young to drive, and therefore lack the traffic awareness accumulated by experienced drivers and motorcyclists, including braking distances, reaction times, avoiding reversing vehicles, blind spots and people opening car doors.
