  • This week children at Norfolk Island Central School have taken part in a colouring in competition to compete to choose the name of the Norfolk Island Police boat that is due to arrive on the Island in October. We look forward to finding out what the name will be and you may be able to view some of the entries in the Norfolk Mall in the coming weeks.
  • Police would like to remind the community that it is your responsibility to stay appraised of when your vehicle registration expires. Many people who have been charged with driving unregistered vehicles in Court recently have unsuccessfully raised the defence that they did not receive a reminder notice from NIRC that their registration was due. Don't rely on reminder notices or registration stickers for your vehicle. You are responsible for keeping the registration current. If you need a visual reminder, perhaps you could put a post-it note inside your car window where the sticker used to be placed.
  • I'd like to thank the valued members of the community who have reported overhearing visitors to the Island speaking about drink driving, or driving with excess passengers in the boot of their hire vehicle, and taken the initiative to stop them from doing it. These visitors excuses of being told that they are allowed to behave that way are unacceptable. We are very keen to find out who has been spreading this misinformation about your beautiful Island, so please, if you have any insights, let us know.
