  • Police want to remind the community that roadside drug testing is underway on Norfolk Island;
  • In the short term there is the possibility that we may not commence any prosecutions;
  • Please make informed decisions relating to any use of medicinal cannabis and then operating a motor vehicle;
  • Police have noticed a general improvement in driving behaviour and we would like to thank the community, it is good to see most people taking care on the roads;
  • School goes back next week so please pay attention to the school zone speed limit.

General Traffic legislation Traffic Act 2010 (NI):

  • (3) For the purposes of this Act a licence ceases to be a recognised licence —

(a) when the holder of the licence has been ordinarily resident in Norfolk Island for a period of 3 months; or

(b) during such period as a Court may order the operation of the recognised licence in Norfolk Island to be cancelled.

This means that if you have moved to Norfolk Island you must get a Norfolk Island Driver Licence within 3 months because any Australian mainland licence will cease to be recognised after that time and you will be unlicensed.
