The NIPF are excited to be partnering with the Health and Wellbeing Office to promote road and bicycle safety. We have teamed up to offer parents a $75 voucher to purchase bicycle helmets for their kids.
Vouchers are available from the Health and Wellbeing Office at Smithy’s. Once you have a voucher you can get a bicycle helmet from Rabbit or Land and Sea.
The Health and Wellbeing staff will be able to help with any questions you might have.
We think this is a great initiative to help the kids stay safe when they are riding their bikes around the island.
Wearing a helmet significantly reduces the risk of serious head injuries for the rider and to be fair, it is the law.
Please get your kids to wear a helmet when they go out on their bikes. If you’re riding with them set the example and wear your helmet too.
There has already been a great response to Helmet Heroes with almost half of the vouchers already gone.
While we’re talking about road safety, everyone has surely seen the road closure signs for Taylors Road. The road is closed while there are people doing road works. The road is closed for their safety, not to be an inconvenience to anyone. We have received a number of complaints about people ignoring the signs and driving through the construction zone which puts themselves and the workers in danger. While the road closed signs are up please use another route to get to and from Kingston.
Just wanted to let the community know that on Monday 2 December we are holding the first ever Norfolk Island Emergency Services Open Day.
It will be on the school oval and we will have St John’s Ambulance, the Fire Service, the Volunteer Rescue Association and the police giving demonstrations to the kids from Banyan Park and the Central School.
We’re also putting on a sausage sizzle for the kids and hope that they enjoy the day.
