  • The NIPF hope everyone enjoyed the long weekend (if they didn’t have to work) and the Flotilla. It was great to see so many people down at Emily Bay.
  • Road safety is still our main concern and we want to remind everyone that school went back this week so please slow down in the school zone.
  • Also, as the person operating a vehicle you are responsible for any passengers you may have with you. Insist that everyone in the vehicle wears a seatbelt and do not exceed the speed limit.
  • This week’s piece of traffic legislation:
    • Section 31A of the Traffic Act 2010 states:
  • (1)The driver of a motor vehicle on a public road must not use a mobile phone while the vehicle is moving or is stationary but not parked.

Penalty: For a first offence 2 penalty units.

For a second or subsequent offence 5 penalty units.

  • (2) Subsection 31A(1) does not apply to the driver of a police or fire services vehicle or ambulance.
  • (3) In this section, a mobile phone is a hand held radio device utilised for the purpose of two-way radio communication between two or more points, and may connect to —

(a) a trunking system; or

(b) a cellular mobile phone network,

and includes —

(c) a hand held radio transceiver; and

(d) a walkie talkie device.
