Here is a bit about last night’s collision:
- Shortly before 6pm on Thursday night (16 March 2023) Norfolk Island Police Force (NIPF) members received a call about a serious single vehicle collision near the Norfolk Island Health and Residential Aged Care Service facility.
- NIPF, Fire Brigade and Ambulance members located a vehicle that had left the road, colliding with a piece of electrical infrastructure and then a tree, causing extensive damage to the vehicle.
- There were four elderly persons in the vehicle - who all sustained significant injuries.
- Sadly, the driver of the vehicle passed away at the scene. The three passengers were treated at NHIRACS for their injuries and then airlifted to Royal Brisbane Hospital in the early hours of Friday (17 March 2023).
- This was a confronting scene for all emergency services personnel and witnesses.
- The NIPF would like to thank all persons who assisted during this critical incident. If any person on the island has any information, dash cam footage or CCTV footage of this incident the NIPF would like to speak to them as soon as possible.
