The NSW Government has granted a license to the Commonwealth for 2022 and 2023, to support Year 11 and 12 students at Norfolk Island Central School as they complete school during a transition to the Queensland curriculum.
Norfolk Island senior secondary students will continue to use the NSW Education Standards Authority (NESA) curriculum and assessment framework, until the end of 2023 to enable them to complete the NSW Higher School Certificate (HSC).
NESA Chief Executive Officer Paul Martin said this was an important agreement that limited disruption to students in their important final years of school as the provider of education services for the island changes from NSW to Queensland.
“We are happy to assist the Norfolk Island community as they transition to a new operating model.
“Continuity of learning is incredibly important at all year levels, and even more so in the final two years of school, where students are making decisions about their post-school pathways and options,” Mr Martin said.
The NSW Government will continue to work closely with the Australian and Queensland Governments to finalise transitional arrangements for the Norfolk Island Central School over the coming weeks.
