Watawieh yorli? It won’t be long until Revolve Your World moves into the waste management shed, so we’d like to let everyone know of some operational changes. First of all - opening hours! As a reflection of our engagement with yorli, our opening hours (once operational) will be Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 7 am to 3 pm. We’ll continue to be closed on Thursday as we require this time for processing, and closed on Sunday so the staff can be with family or just stiewelaut (relax). We will continue to listen to the community to see if these opening times work, and adjust if necessary. We are also looking into arranging alternative times for larger businesses to drop off their waste, and we will keep yorli up to date with any proposed changes.
There will be a significant change to the physical layout of the Centre. Currently, about one-third of the waste management shed is open to the public, where the community can drive through and sort rubbish into the different chutes. Revolve Your World will be utilising this entire inside space for our equipment (Recyclapods, plastics processing unit, glass crusher, biochar unit etc), so community access will be different.
You may have noticed the gardens along the southern wall were removed a few months ago? This is to make room for two roller door access points and drop off lanes. The roller door drop off areas will be where you take your household rubbish. One or two doors will be in operation, depending on how busy we are, and you will see areas allocated for the following four waste streams: food scraps, glass, sanitary, and hazardous waste. You can deliver each of these streams to their designated areas.
The fifth and last stream is the ‘big one’ that includes everything that does not fall into the other four categories. This is called the Recyclapod stream. This will also be handed over to the Norfolk Wave Recycling Centre staff at the roller door area. You can transfer waste from your bin into the provided crates where it will be transferred to the Recyclapod bench for efficient sorting. Some of you have asked if we will able to sort through the rubbish quickly enough, so you may be surprised to find out that it generally takes three people less than three minutes to sort a 240L wheelie bin. Of course, this time is significantly reduced or increased depending on how well we as a community take food scraps out of our Recyclapod stream. If the centre is busy and materials can’t be sorted immediately, it will be put to the side to be processed within the same day.
As we have mentioned in previous articles, we will particularly be looking to seperate out metals, plastics, paper and cardboard to be transformed into materials for the community, or exported for recycling.
Some important things to note!
The countdown is on yorli, and we couldn’t be more excited to bring the community with us on this wave! For any questions please feel free to reach out to any of us, or head to www.thenorfolkwave.com to check out the FAQs
