John Snell Memorial Trophy. This trophy is awarded to the sporting house that compiles the most points at the Cross Country. The winning house for 2022 Cross Country is Philip House scoring 3,763 points.

Swimming Awards - Presented by Mr David Magri, President of the Norfolk Island Golf Club. NICS would like to especially thank the Golf Club for their generous sponsorship of the keep sake swimming trophies.

Senior Girls Champion – Siena Menghetti. Siena also record breaker in the Senior Girls Raft to Beach Backstroke in a time of 47.75 seconds

Intermediate Boys Champion – Kingston Menzies. Kingston also broke the Intermediate Boys raft to beach breaststroke race with a time of 55.75 seconds. Well done Siena and Kingston.

Intermediate Girls- Champion – This year was a tie between these two girls scoring 50 points, please come forward – Timi Snell and Layla Dixon.

Junior Boys Champion – Brycen Menzies

Junior Girls Champion – Ava Mullins. Ava also broke three records;

Junior Girls – Freestyle - Beach-Raft 50 metres – in 38.62sec

Junior Girls – Breastoske - Beach-Raft 50 metres – in 60.50sec

and Junior Girls – Backstroke Beach-Raft 50 metres – in 53.38sec.

Sub Junior Boys Champion – Cooper Eales

Sub Junior Girls Champion – Ella-Kaye Ellis

Norfolk Island Central School Gift Swimming Champion for 2022. The gift is a freestyle handicap event which is calculated on 50m freestyle times. Competitors are both male and females from sub-junior to open age categories. They are required to race from the raft to the beach. It is always a very close finish, with a time of 47.94, the winner of this iconic event is Ella-Kaye Ellis.

Champion Swimming House, congratulations to Philip House who scored 1,276 points.

Senior and Junior Swimmer of the Meet ‘Yarm Menzies Trophy’, presented by James Menzies-Spreag. These two trophies are in recognition of an Island man who loved sport of any nature. Yarm particularly had a passion for swimming and loved to be near the ocean.

Senior swimmer of the Meet, Yarm Menzies Trophy - This trophy is awarded to the swimmer in the category of Intermediate, Senior or Open, who accumulates the most points for the swimming events throughout the Annual Beach Carnival, goes to an individual who placed first in every swimming event except one, they exceeded the next closest competitor by 20 points. Congratulations to Kingston Menzies.

The Junior Yarm Menzies Trophy Swimmer of the Meet - The winner of this award placed first in every event which they competed in at the beach carnival. It was a very close competition with 3 competitors within 7 points of each other, this year’s winner of the Junior Swimmer Of The Meet - Ava Mullins.

Citizenship Awards

Administrator’s Awards - Presented by - Mr Andrew Atfield, behalf of Eric Hutchinson.

These three awards are presented to students for: ‘Effort in schooling based on ability, participating in sports and carnivals at school, general behavior, co-operation and help around the school and our community’. Our Year 11-12 recipient of the Administrator’s Award is awarded to: Koszta Deszecsar from Year 12, the Year 7 – 10 is awarded to: Jaylon Williams and our Junior recipient Year 3-6 is awarded to: Leilani Eales Year 6.

The ‘Quota Service Awards’- presented by Mrs Cherie Hamilton-Irvine, Member of the Quota Club of Norfolk Island. The Quota Service Award is awarded to a Kindergarten to Year 6 student, who has contributed towards school services.

The recipient of the award consistently volunteers for, and participates in a variety of extra curricular activities and clubs in and around the school including; Garden Club, Sustainability Club and Library monitor.

The student actively seeks to support younger students or students with disability in the playground, is often called upon to support teachers to deliver messages or do classroom/playground jobs. Ruby Drinan from Year 6

The Secondary Quota Service Award is awarded to a Year 7-12 student who has contributed towards school service. This student is a leader in Environ NICS, a keen member of recycling stall, nude food day and a guest speaker promoted these events on social media. This student is also is involved in beach clean ups, and mufti days - Ella Borg from Year 12.

Norfolk Island Tourism Award – presented by Mrs Rose Evans, Section Leader of Tourism. This award is presented to a Year 7-12 student for being a good ambassador for our school. This student has represented Norfolk Island and its culture in the International Gold Coast Gap Camp; participating in the Commonwealth Games and selected as a flag bearer, liaising with visitors during international tournaments and representative responsibilities in Northern Island in December in the World Youth Championships - Ellie Dixon from Year 11.

The ‘Judy and Alan Kerr Award’ – presented by Mr Reeves, President of the P and C Association. Alan Kerr was a prior Administrator on Norfolk Island from 1992 through to 1997. For the past twenty four years this award has been presented to a Kindergarten to Year 2 student ’who shows outstanding character traits which are an example to others’. This year’s winner of the Judy and Alan Kerr Award is presented to a Year 2 student - Harrison Nobbs, Year 2.

Ampol Best All Rounder Award 2022 – presented by Mr Joel Reeves. This award is presented to a Yr 10 or 12 student. The award is presented ‘in recognition of a student’s excellence in academic, leadership, sporting and community service activities’ -– Ella Rogers from Yr 12.

Athletics Champions – Presented by Mr Luke Howlett, President of the RSL Memorial Club. Thank you to the Norfolk Island RSL Memorial Club for their continued sponsoring of keep sake trophies. The club’s generosity and support are very much appreciated.

Field Events Record Breaker - Toby Christian broke the Junior Boys Shotput throwing a 10.10 metres.

2022 Athletics House Champion. The drought has broken this year with Nepean House scoring 2,213 points to win this year’s Carnival. Philip House was trying hard for the trifactor only 171 points behind Nepean and Norfolk House scoring 1,778 points

The Alan Wright Trophy is presented each year to the Champion Marching House. This is a very sought-after trophy, with students displaying a unique march past, which students at NICS, staff and our Island community are all very proud off.

The marching is judged by former students who attended NICS, from each sporting house. This year representing Norfolk House, Rachel Nebauer - Borg; representing Philip House, Martin Snell; and Bridgette Graham, representing Nepean House.

This year the champion marching house was won by Norfolk House.

Individual Athlete Awards

Kitty Young Trophy – presented by Robin Butterfield. The Kitty Young Trophy was inaugurated in 1984 and this year it marks its 38th year of being presented. Kitty’s love and passion was her sport and was an excellent sports woman in all areas. This trophy is presented in her memory to a athlete male or female who compiles the most points in field events at the Athletics Carnival – Kingston Menzies who compiled 48 points. Kingston came 1st in Discus, High Jump, Javelin and Long Jump and 2nd in Shotput.

Prim McCowan Trophy – Presented by Natalie Grube. The Prim McCowan trophy is awarded to the Kindergarten student male or female, who is the fastest sprinter over 70 metres at our Annual Athletics carnival. This year’s 2022 Kinder Athlete is: Cody Randall

Britney Quintal-Christian Memorial Trophy – presented by Carissa, Taj and Mim Quintal. Britney was an outstanding athlete, passionate about sport especially field events, and in particular discus and shotput in which she broke a number of records whilst she was a student at NICS. Britney was also the winner of the Kindergarten Cup in 1999.

This award is awarded to a female who competes in the Senior Division or Open Division, with the highest accumulated field event points. This year we have three winners. Our first is from Open Girls: Taleyah McRae Jones, 1st in Discus, Javelin and Shot Put. Our second winner is Ili Bulisuva: 1st in Discus, Javelin and Shotput; and our third winner is Emma Kalangis: 2nd in Shotput; 3rd in Discus; equal 3rd in High Jump and 4th in Javelin.

Allen ‘Puddles’ Buffett Trophy – presented by Curtis Buffett in remembrance of his Uncle ‘Puddles’ as he was know to many on Norfolk Island. The Allen Buffet Trophy is awarded to K-12 student who display a love for school-based sport. The trophy recognised that sport is about doing your best, being enthusiastic and enjoying being involved, regardless of the outcome – as our school moto encourages – it is how you ‘Play The Game’ that counts – presented to Billy Smith who is a Year 6 student.

Major General Sellheim Cup - presented by Mr Andrew Brandon, Assistant Regional Director. This trophy awarded is the ‘Senior Boys Sprint Champion’ which is open to all Senior Boys over a distance of 100 metres. This year’s champion sprinter at the Annual Athletics Carnival - Jaylon Williams, Jaylon time was 12.98 seconds.

The Athlete of the Meet – presented Mr Andrew Brandon. The winner of this award is a consistently strong competitor in both track and field events. They placed first in discus, javelin, high jump, long jump, 100m, 200m and 800m – congratulations Kingston Menzies.

The R.S.S & A.I.L.A Inter House Champion Trophy – presented by Mr Andrew Brandon. This trophy is presented to the winning sports house, who gains the most points over the three carnivals. When added together over the Athletics, Swimming and Cross Country. This year, we congratulate Philip House, winning two of the three carnivals, Swimming and Cross Country. Congratulation to Captains and Vice Captains and Philip House with a total score of 5671 points.

2022 Most Outstanding Senior and Junior Female and Senior and Junior Male Sportsperson of the year.

Most Outstanding Senior Male Sportsperson – Presented by Russell Moore. The senior Male Most Outstanding Sportsperson award goes an individual who consistently displayed an outstanding level of skill at all 3 sports carnivals. This individual was the age champion at two of the three carnivals and was also selected in the Darling Downs State cross country team. Congratulations to Kingston Menzies.

Most Outstanding Senior Female SportspersonThe girls Senior Most Outstanding Sportsperson was also an impressive athlete at all three carnivals. This athlete was successful in winning age champion across the board in their age group. Congratulations to Siena Menghetti.

Most Outstanding Junior Male SportspersonThe junior male most outstanding sports person is a highly contested award. This athlete fought off some very strong competition to also become age champion of all three carnivals. Congratulations to Brycen Menzies.

Most Outstanding Junior Female Sportsperson The junior female sports person is also a highly contested award. This award goes to an athlete from the junior girls age group – which is becoming a very competitive age category. The winner of this award was to strong at the beach carnival collecting more then 20 points then her nearest rival – she also was selected to represent Norfolk Island in Rugby League and Athletics at the QLD state championships – Congratulations Ava Mullins.

Congratulations to all students at NICS who tried hard, did their best and participated with true sporting and community spirit in the life of our school where we are taught to “Play the Game”.
