The Victoria Cross Shield is awarded to a student who has shown outstanding resilience in overcoming adversity. This Award has been awarded over the years to an outstanding series of young people who have displayed the kind of courage and strength of character which are examples to us all. They have also been thoroughly amazing people and a valuable part of our school community.

The Victoria Cross Shield is an award that recognises the efforts of a student who has overcome adversity and personal challenges throughout the year. The student must also demonstrate through their resilience, a determination to achieve to their best.

This year’s recipient has been able to overcome a number of difficult challenges throughout her senior years, and through her drive and determination, she has been able to study consistently and effectively to achieve excellent results. She has had her resilience tested repeatedly and has persevered to maintain her focus and single-minded determination to achieve her best. She has lived independently; worked in a number of jobs part time; and sustained her effort and achievement throughout Years 11 and 12. She has been an outstanding school leader and has worked tirelessly representing the school in a number of areas. She has continued to refocus and work to improve across her chosen course of study, even in subjects that she found difficult.

Throughout all this, the recipient of this year’s award strove to remain happy, positive, encouraging and involved. She is a kind, caring and thoughtful person who absolutely deserves her success and is a very deserving recipient of the Victoria Cross Shield for 2022 – Ella Borg from Year 12
