Charles Upham, John Hinton (New Zealand), This award has always been presented in the spirit of recognition of an individual’s will and determination to achieve whilst facing and overcoming some degree of adversity. It is awarded to a Prep to Year 12 Student. This year there are dual winners:
The first recipient:
Each year a student is nominated to receive the Victoria Cross Shield. This prestigious award is given to a student who, with determination and will, has overcome difficult circumstances to achieve at school. It has been awarded over the years to an outstanding series of young people who have displayed the kind of courage and strength of character which are examples to us all.
The 2025 recipient is an extremely determined young student who has worked hard to improve and develop their skills. This student has gone through obstacles that affected her learning and has worked tirelessly to overcome them. Her dedication to improve on her skills through extra supports at school has been inspiring to all who know her.
In addition to this, when this young student went through a significant family change, she returned with strength and courage. Her persistence, resilience and quiet determination have seen her achieve growth beyond what anyone could expect, shining brightly in her progress.
We are so proud of everything she has achieved and it is an honour to present this award to Billie Schmitz Quintal – Year 3
