Nomination for the Administrator’s 2025 Norfolk Island Volunteer Awards

17 April 2025

The Administrator’s Norfolk Island Volunteer Awards recognise those people in the Norfolk Island community who go above and beyond in their community service. Acts of giving, sharing and helping out are imbedded as part of the Norfolk Island culture. This office supports these customs and all forms of volunteering. If you give your time, share your skills or help out in your community, you are volunteering. Many volunteers are not part of a group, they informally help neighbours and strangers, especially in times of crisis and adversity. Volunteers willingly give their time for the common good and without financial gain. Ultimately, a nomination for any volunteer, is one of the most meaningful ways to offer public recognition for their service to the community.

Nominations are sought for awards in the following categories:

Young Volunteer of the Year – Persons up to the age of 25 years as at 1 May 2025

Adult Volunteer of the Year Award – Persons over the age of 25 years and up to 64 years as at 1 May 2025

Senior Volunteer of the Year Award – Persons over the age of 65 years as at 1 May 2025

Volunteer Team of the Year Award – Two individuals or more

Emergency Volunteer of the Year Award – An individual involved in emergency or disaster management

Nominations for these awards should be submitted to the Office of the Administrator in a sealed envelope marked “Volunteer Award Nomination”. Each nomination should include:

  • the nominator’s details;
  • the category in which the nomination is made;
  • describe the nominees’ significant dedication, impact, and contributions to their local community; and
  • explain why you are nominating this person/s, what makes them stand out, why are you motivated to nominate them.

The task of nominating a role model, or inspiring colleague, friend or family member doesn’t need to be daunting. The best nominations are those that tell a story. Your nomination doesn’t have to be the best written, it just needs to capture the characteristics of the extraordinary person/s making a difference in the community.

The person/s being nominated should give permission for their nomination. The nominee is required to understand that their name, image and story may be used publicly.

The Administrator will announce the Volunteer Awards at Government House on Wednesday 14 May 2025.

Lodgement of nominations must be received by the Office of the Administrator by close of business, Thursday

1 May 2025.
