Nomination for the Administrator’s 2025 Norfolk Island Australia Day Awards

The Administrator’s Australia Day Awards recognise those people in the Norfolk Island community who are changing lives and society for the better. Their challenges and triumphs are demonstrated in their life experience and personal journey. They have taken risks, done the hard yards and been a pioneer that has had a positive impact on a wide range of people’s lives. The recipients are role models to the community, have demonstrated excellence in their field, and made significant contributions to the community.

Nominations are sought for awards in the following categories:

Citizen of the Year Award – Persons over the age of 25 years and up to 64 years as at 26 January 2025

Young Citizen of the Year – Persons up to the age of 25 years as at 26 January 2025

Senior Citizen of the Year Award – Persons over the age of 65 years as at 26 January 2025

Community Achievement Award – significant achievement for which no other avenue of public acknowledgement exists and can be either an individual or a group nomination

Nominations for these awards should be submitted to the Office of the Administrator in a sealed envelope marked “Australia Day Award Nomination”. Each nomination should include:

• the nominator’s details;
• the category in which the nomination is made;
• describe the nominees’ significant contributions to their local, national, or global communities;
• explain why you are nominating this person, what makes them stand out, why are you motivated to nominate them; and
• two written references in support of the nomination

The task of nominating a role model, or inspiring colleague, community champion, friend or family member doesn’t need to be daunting. The best nominations are those that tell a story. Your nomination doesn’t have to be the best written or have a long list of achievements, it just needs to capture the characteristics of the extraordinary person making a difference in the community. Whether they are the first to lend a hand at the local football club or running a business, it is the nominee’s impact on others and their story that is accessed.

All nominations are strictly confidential. The person/s being nominated should not be advised of their nomination or approached for information.

Nominations will be considered by a community panel. The Administrator will announce the Australia Day Awards at Government House on Australia Day 26 January 2025.

Lodgement of nominations must be received by the Office of the Administrator by close of business, Wednesday 4 December 2024.
