NDSS – National Diabetes Services Scheme
Diabetes is a chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin or when the body cannot effectively use the insulin it produces.
The National Diabetes Services Scheme (NDSS) is an initiative of the Australian Government that commenced in 1987 and is administered by Diabetes Australia. The NDSS aims to enhance the capacity of people with diabetes to understand and self-manage their life with diabetes. The NDSS provides access to support and information services, diabetes programs and subsidised products to assist people to self-manage their life with diabetes.
NDSS subsidised products are available through NDSS Access Points (pharmacies). Burnt Pine Pharmacy is an NDSS Access Point. To access these products, you need to register with the NDSS which can be done on NDSS website https://www.ndss.com.au . Registration with the NDSS is free for all eligible individuals and only needs to be done once, or if you would like to speak with the NDSS helpline, call 1800 637 700.

ADHD Awareness October is ADHD awareness month. ADHD (Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder) is a very common disorder which affects children and adults. It has for many years been recognised as a childhood issue that affects focus, self-control and many other important skills.
ADHD affects around one in twenty Australians, no-one knows for certain what causes ADHD, and it is possible that a number of factors, both genetic and environmental, may contribute to its development. ADHD is one of the most researched neurobiological developmental disorders in the world.
If you suspect you or your child has ADHD, your first step is to go to your GP, make notes about all the traits and reasons that make you think you or your child has ADHD. Also think about whether there is anyone in your family who has been diagnosed as well, this will help the GP.
For more information please visit ADHD Australia website https://www.adhdaustralia.org....
Heart Foundation Walking group each Sunday
October is Walktober month. Walking and moving more is very good for us. It helps to improve sleep & lung capacity, by walking for just 30 minutes every day can increase cardiovascular fitness & strengthen bones. Walking also increases oxygen flow through the body.
The group meets every Sunday at 8am near the Kingston pier. You are welcome to bring your dog or children and there are different walking distances to choose from. If you would like to join the group, just turn up. Remember to bring your hat, water and have sunscreen on. For more information contact the Health and Wellbeing office on 22687.
