NICS News Week 5 Term 3

11 August 2023

From the Principal’s Desk

HSC Trial Examinations have commenced and will run through week 6. I wish Year 12 all the best with their preparation and examinations. Congratulations to Dylan Bruce and Flynn McCowan, who submitted their major projects for Industrial Technology Timber. It is great to see such high-quality projects being produced.

A reminder to all students leaving the school in the afternoon to please use the pedestrian crossings safely, walking bikes and scooters across the road. I have a had a number of parents comment on dangerous behaviours on the way home from school. Could families also remind students to please wear a helmet when riding bikes and scooters.

NI Active Kids Program

The NI Active Kids Program supports families of school kids to participate in physical activity and is funded and administered by the Health and Wellbeing team. In order to improve the program and to advocate for funding to continue we ask parents and registered activity providers to give us feedback each year. If your child(ren) has/have received a NI Active Kids voucher in the 2022-23 financial year or you represent one of the registered providers please take a couple of minutes to complete an online survey (if you haven't already done so). NICS school review

Our school is scheduled for a review from 22 to 25 August, 2023.

The Department of Education regularly reviews state schools in Queensland. The reviews are conducted by the department’s School and Region Reviews branch.

The reviews do not rate or compare schools, but provide independent feedback to allow schools to continue to improve learning outcomes for students.

All schools have a review at least once every four years. Key findings from the review will be made available to parents and the community on our school website.

The review team would like to hear from the school community, and I encourage anyone who is interested to have their say. Your feedback is important and will help us continue to deliver a great education for students.

To gather representative community voice for this review, the following community members may approach you to ask for your views on the school:

  • Joel Reeves
  • Rhonda Griffiths
  • Cherie Nobbs
  • Megan Magri
  • Stephanie Fielder

They might be interested in talking to you about the school, or you might be interested in finding one of these people to have your say.

From 22 to 25 August, the review team; an independent group of people from the Department of Education; will visit the school to listen to these representatives share this community’s voice. The review team will also be interviewing a significant number of other people from the school community, as well as staff and students.

Feedback can be provided to the review team by phone or in person. All feedback remains confidential. Please contact the school office if you are interested in speaking to a reviewer. Alternatively, you can register your interest by emailing reviews@qed.qld.gov.au.

More information about the review process is available from the department’s website at www.schoolreviews.education.qld.gov.au
