Welcome back to Term 3, with a special welcome to our new families and enrolments this term. Once again, a big thank you to the Norfolk Island Community for supporting the NICS P&C Winter Carnival. It was a fantastic night and great to see everyone come together. It was the first carnival to be held since 2021, and I would like to acknowledge Roz Tierney and Kym Adams for driving the coordination of this event. Thank you to all of the volunteers, staff, office staff and families who supported with setting up and running events on the night, and to those who donated food items and supported with food preparation and cooking. A special thank you to the fishermen for donating and cooking the fish. The event raised over $18000 for the NICS P&C.
Thank you to Eve Semple, Norfolk Island Health and Wellbeing, for leading the Beyond Norfolk program for our senior students. The Beyond Norfolk program ran for six weeks at the end of Term 2 covering topics such as money skills, safe partying, general health and wellbeing, and driving skills. The feedback from the students was very positive. Thank you, Eve, and to all guest presenters and volunteers for supporting NICS students with their pathways post-school.
The Week 2 Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) focus area is, “be a positive role model.” These key messages will be repeated throughout the week. PBL Awards are presented each week at assembly. As always, parents are more than welcome to attend our Wednesday assemblies. For the next two weeks prior to the carnival, there will be marching practice, therefore, no awards presented.
A reminder to Years 10-12 students completing the First Aid Short Course to please complete the online quizzes prior to the practical skills component next week. If you need support, please see Alyson Innis as soon as possible.
The Athletics Carnival is coming up in Week 3 on Wednesday, 24 July. I look forward to another great carnival and the community coming together. The 1500m, 800m and javelin will be held prior to the carnival. Students will be given the times for these events from the teachers.
Best of luck to all house groups.
The NICS Career Expo will run again in 2024 from Wednesday, 31 July, through to Friday, 2 August. The Wednesday will be a careers market with guest speakers from TAFE, SCU, ASURIA, and Business Solutions attending. This will be supported by a parent information session after school. Over the course of Thursday and Friday, students and families can book appointments with the guests to discuss their specific career pathways and options. More information will go out to families next week.
Families have now received the Term 3 NICS Community Calendar, highlighting the key events for this term. Secondary families will receive assessment calendars early next week.
