NICS News – Week 9, Term 2

14 June 2024

I hope everyone enjoyed Bounty Day, spending time with family and friends. The end of Term 2 is fast approaching. A reminder that the last day of term is Friday, 21 June. I would like to wish everyone a happy and safe winter break, with all students and staff returning on Monday, 8 July.

Congratulations to all of the students who participated in the Bounty Ball last weekend. It was great to see so many students dance and have as great time. Thank you to the staff, community volunteers and students who supported the training prior to the event.

The upcoming Week 10 Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) focus area is, “show kindness.” These key messages will be repeated throughout the week. PBL Awards are presented each week at assembly. It has been wonderful to see so many recipients this term, especially in our secondary area of the school. As always, parents are more than welcome to attend our Wednesday assemblies. A new PBL award sponsored by the NICS P&C has been implemented to acknowledge and reward students doing the right thing in the playground. The “Gotcha” awards are collected and placed in a box in the office by staff, and two $5 canteen vouchers are drawn out at assembly each week. Congratulations to this week’s “Gotcha” winners, Sam Sapienza and Alickson Kalsrap

Semester 1 reports will be emailed to parents in Week 10. After consultation with staff and the P&C, reports will be slightly different from this semester. The code generated comments have been removed and replaced with a faculty specific comment regarding the coursework studied and assessments completed. The reports will feature the A-E grades, along with effort and behaviour. We had excellent uptake with the Parent-Teacher meetings at the end of Term 1 with 86% of parents attending. Parent-Teacher meetings will be held early in Term 3 on Wednesday, 7 August. The online booking system will open next term.

A reminder that the Winter Carnival will be held on Friday, 21 June. Donations of any goods from the community can be dropped at the front office. I look forward to this great community event and would like to thank Roz, Kym and all of the staff and volunteers involved.
