NICS News – Week 8 Term 2

The upcoming Week 8 Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) focus area is “Be inclusive of all.” These key messages will be repeated throughout the week. PBL Awards are presented each week at assembly. It has been wonderful to see so many recipients this term, especially in our secondary area of the school. As always, parents are more than welcome to attend our Wednesday assemblies. A new PBL award sponsored by the NICS P&C has been implemented to acknowledge and reward students doing the right thing in the playground. The “Gotcha” awards are collected and placed in a box in the office by staff, and two $5 canteen vouchers are drawn out at assembly each week. Congratulations to this week’s “Gotcha” winners, Poppy Spreag and Maeve Carrier.

I would like to wish the NICS students who are representing Norfolk Island at the FESTPAC in Hawaii from next week all the best. The students will be participating in the Performing Arts category showcasing our island and culture. The dancers will be accompanied by our Norfolk Island musicians and will participate in a range of cultural activities and events across the festival. Congratulations to Alyssa Anderson, Mauatua Christian Reynolds, Cassie McCoy, Siena Menghetti, Georgie Quintal and Tertia Ward.

Congratulations to Timi Snell who has finished in fifth position at the QLD State Squash Championships last week. This means that Timi has now qualified for the QLD State Squash team to represent QLD in the Trans-Tasman Secondary School Squash Tournament in Welling in August. Timi’s team, the under 15 girls, Darling Downs South West Region Team, finished in first place. Congratulations, Timi!

A reminder that the Winter Carnival will be held on Friday, 21 June. Donations of any goods from the community can be dropped at the front office. I look forward to this great community event.

As the weather is now starting to cool down, a reminder that The Emporium is fully stocked with the NICS jumpers and pants. Could I please encourage students and families to ensure that they have the correct uniform? If you require support regarding uniforms, please contact the school on 23000.
