A warm welcome to Emma Brennan, Deputy Principal P-6. Emma has joined the NICS team this week and will play an integral part of the leadership team. Emma brings a wealth of experience from her previous roles in rural schools in QLD. Welcome, Emma.
The upcoming PBL focus for Week 7 is “respect the instructions from all staff in all settings”. These key messages will be repeated throughout the week. PBL Awards are presented each week at assembly. As always, parents are more than welcome to attend our Wednesday assemblies. Congratulations to the secondary students who received their ribbons from the Athletics Carnival this week.
Thank you to the NICS school community for supporting the Bullying No Way National Week of Action. Bullying No Way Week highlighted the important roles school, family and community play in helping young people feel accepted, respected and that they have a place where they belong. The theme for 2024 was “Everyone Belongs”. In a school, belonging is like a superpower against bullying. It's what brings us together, makes us stronger, and helps us understand and support each other. Thank you to Sara Price, Guidance Officer, for coordinating the mural artwork, events during break time and leading the pledge against bullying on assembly.
Book Week is coming up at NICS next week. This year’s theme, “Reading Is Magic”, celebrates the power of stories to transport our minds to encourage curiosity about the wonders of the world. It highlights fantastical narratives and the wizardry of words that can whisk us away to the unknown worlds. Please join us in dressing up for the Book Week parade on Wednesday’s assembly. NICS has a few activities planned during the week and one is including a whole school assembly on Wednesday, 21 August, to showcase our students dressed up as their favourite book characters. All families are invited to attend this assembly starting at 1.45pm. Other days for students to participate are Thursday, 22 August, being a “Crazy Glasses” day to wear with your uniform, and Friday, 23 August, is “Hats and Socks” fancy dress with your uniform. If you have any questions, please contact the library staff on 23000.

Could I please ask that families not use the former principal’s residence driveway and yard area as a drop off or pick up space? Currently, there is limited access to this area. In the future, this will be a designated car park space; however, until this work is completed, please use the drop off / pick up drive through at the front of the school.
