NICS News – Week 2, Term 3

18 July 2024

The Athletics Carnival is coming up next week on Wednesday, 24 July. I look forward to another great carnival and the community coming together. Best of luck to all house groups and athletes. The Athletics Carnival ties in very well with our Week 3 Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL) focus area is, “Try your personal best”. These key messages will be repeated throughout the week. PBL Awards are presented each week at assembly, and as always, parents are more than welcome to attend our Wednesday assemblies. PBL awards will return following the carnival.

The NICS Career Days will run from Wednesday, 31 July, through to Friday, 2 August. The Wednesday guest speakers from TAFE, SCU, ASURIA, and Business Solutions will present to students followed by a parent information session after school at 5:30pm in A block. Over the course of Thursday and Friday, students and families can book appointments with the guests to discuss their specific career pathways and options. SOBS online bookings for these sessions will open on Friday, 19 July, and will close on Thursday, 1 August, at 3:00pm. The links for the SOBS bookings will be provided in the NICS newsletter on Monday.

Reading workshops for parents will be held in the Prep classroom on Wednesday, 31 July, at 2:15pm and repeated at 5:00pm. Come along and learn about the importance of shared reading and talking about reading with your child. NICS staff will provide tips to support your child to make a great start with reading. If you require more information, please contact Sam Powell on 23000.

Parent-Teacher Meetings will occur on Wednesday, 7 August, for all year groups P-12. This semester, NICS will follow the same arrangements from Semester 1 to allow for greater access to staff. Bookings will be available from 1:40pm – 6:00pm using the School Online Booking System, (SOBS). With the earlier start time, all students will be permitted to leave at the beginning of the lunch break at 1:10pm. Students who are departing will need to complete a permission note which will go out next week. For those students who are unable to leave and require supervision, students can remain at school and will be supervised on the courts until 2:50pm. More information regarding the booking system and how to book a meeting will be emailed to parents next week. If you have any questions, please contact the school on 23000.
