"NI FLORA & FAUNA SOCIETY ~ Special Presentation This Week

19 January 2024

On Wednesday 24 January, at 5.30pm the NI Flora & Fauna Society will be hosting a talk by Simon Gorta.

Many have met Simon as he has been working in Norfolk for two (of a planned three) Summers, focusing his attention mainly on the Whale Birds (Sooty Terns) on Phillip Island. Simon’s long-term study, (which is part of his PhD thesis, with University of NSW) has revealed some interesting outcomes, including the identification of some unexpected predators which are affecting their population numbers.

We invite all community members who are interested in the Whale Birds, where they go when they’re not at Norfolk, and impacts on their numbers both here and away, to join us at the A&H Hall at 5.30pm on Wednesday 24 January. There will be time for questions, discussion and information sharing, and we anticipate being finished by 6.30pm.

Looking forward to seeing you there.
