On Tuesday and Wednesday of last week 📅 our team headed out to Phillip Island 🏝️ to undertake the first regular tarler bird cull of the year.
It was a successful expedition 👍, with 23 birds controlled across the 2 days, with an estimated approximately 23 still remaining on the island.
This project has been hugely successful for the recovery of the vulnerable Kermadec petrel (Pterodroma neglecta neglecta), whose eggs and young chicks 🐣 were tempting prey for the self-introduced tarler birds.
We will undertake more culls later in the year, and we're excited to see the impact on our vulnerable bird populations 📈.
