Norfolk Island representation at the New Zealand DTL National Clay Target Championships. 3 shooters from the Norfolk Island Clay Target Association have travelled to Christchurch for the 2024 Down The Line Championships. Clinton Judd, Kayden Judd and Paul Anderson.
There are 259 shooters attending from New Zealand and Australia as well as our 3. It is also noted that the club is flying 3 flags, New Zealand, Norfolk Island and Australia.
Amongst those attending are previous Title holders, World champions and Olympic and Commonwealth competitors.
With 8 Championship events and 5 Trophy Match events, our contingent has performed with some exceptional results.
The first event was Double Rise New Zealand Title (two targets at a time). Clint shot an outstanding 49/50. This placed him for a shoot off with one other and they went a further 15 pair to get a result of Clint 1stin AA Grade.
The Handicap, Minis, Balltrap events were contested, but we were just not in the running with the scores on the board.
The Famous Grouse sponsored Trophy match for Point Score saw Clint Judd shooting a possible of 75/75, Kayden Judd and Paul Anderson just one second barrel away with a 74/75. The scores are so high that only the perfect score gets you into the shoot offs. Clint did this after another 51 targets for another AA Grade 1st place. Kayden shot off with one other Junior to take out the Junior trophy for this event. Congratulations!
NZ Triples Championship Title was next with Clint, Kayden and Paul all shooting 72/75 which was good shooting but not quite good enough for the shoot offs in AA grade. Paul’s score got him into a shoot off for 3rdin A grade, a great effort but unfortunately didn’t place.
Double Barrel New Zealand Championship Title was the next one that we featured in. Clint shot 50/50 with Paul and Kayden shooting 49/50. Great shooting guys. There were approximately 50 shooters to get the 50/50 sending Clint into a shoot off which lasted 271 targets. One got away from him and so did the NZ Title, but secured him 1st in AA Grade. A mammoth effort in concentration and accuracy to get so far.
Single Barrel New Zealand Championship Title was next on the agenda and again our contingent shot well, but not quite well enough. Clint 48/50, Kayden 47/50 and Paul 47/50.The Kilwell Trophy match of 25 target point score was after that with Kayden shooting the possible of 75/75, Clint just 1 point behind on 74/75 and Paul close with 71/75. Kayden went into the shoot off for AA Grade, but unfortunately didn’t make it to the end. However this score did get him the Juniors High Gun for this event.
The final comp was the Point Score Championship Title which all 3 shot really well, but no possible to get them through.
Congratulations to Clinton on his 300 badge and Kayden on his 100 badge. What great personal achievements.
