MV Norfolk Sea Freight from Brisbane

19 December 2025

December 2025

Last weekend the MV Norfolk arrived from Brisbane and anchored at Cascade Bay, and the unloading of the sea freight commenced on Wednesday 17 December 2025 and continued until the lighterage crew unloaded all of the cargo.

This week they used one of the new CTV transfer vessels, for the unloading, as well as the white transfer vessel, which is the large of the two vessels which have been used for about three years. I have heard that the smaller blue cargo transfer boat requires repairs, so it was not in use for this sea freight delivery.

There were two new CTV cargo transfer vessels, custom-built for Norfolk Island, delivered to Norfolk Island in April 2025, and this was the first time I have seen one of them used to unload sea freight. The CTV vessels were named Oefi - 464923 and Trumpi – 464921. On Wednesday afternoon when I watched the unloading, Oefi was used to transfer cars from the ship to shore.

The last delivery of sea-freight from Australia at the beginning of November, followed from another shipment from Auckland at the end of November. Everyone will be pleased to receive their cargo, which includes Australia Post and fingers crossed Christmas mail also included. The sea freight will also include food for the supermarket and food industries, building materials and much more.

Once the cargo is unloaded this week, the vessel will not return until February 2026. The shipping scheduled shows no deliveries in January 2026, and the first deliveries will be from Brisbane early in February. The Auckland sea freight will not commence until March 2026. This therefore means that during the next couple of months, there will be no New Zealand sea-freight deliveries.

We wish the MV Norfolk crew a safe journey as they return home and on their voyage from Brisbane, Australia, on their next trip to Norfolk Island which is scheduled for early February 2026. Let’s hope the MV Norfolk has smooth seas, after the stormy weather delaying many voyages during 2025.

Thank you for the lighterage crew, truck drivers and shipping company for your continued skills unloading the cargo. Here are a couple of photos of MV Norfolk anchored at Kingston, as the lighterage crew unloaded the cargo of the sea-freight on Wednesday 17 December 2025.
