MV Norfolk Sea Freight from Brisbane

February 2026

This month, late on 9 February, the MV Norfolk arrived from Brisbane and anchored at Cascade Bay. The community waited for the unloading to commence, but there was no work until Friday, but due to a few issues the unloading did not get going until Saturday 14 February. The lighterage crew continued unloading the cargo until late in the day, until all the freight had been transferred to shore. There was a cruise ship Crystal Serenity due to arrive on Sunday 15 February, so it was a long day for the lighterage crew and workers finishing the unloading of the Brisbane sea-freight on Saturday.

It was great to see the MV Norfolk arrive and everyone will be pleased to receive their cargo, which included Australia Post. The sea freight also included food for the supermarket and food industries, building materials and much more.

I drove to Cascade Pier on Saturday and watched the new CTV cargo transfer vessels moving the cargo from the ship to shore. Both of the two CTV vessels were used to unload the sea-freight. They

can carry large loads and when I arrived it looked like Australian Post was onboard a CTV. I also watched the unloading of a truck and a car, along with another very large item wrapped in a white plastic protective layer.

There were two new CTV cargo transfer vessels, custom-built for Norfolk Island, delivered to Norfolk Island in April 2025, and this was the second time I have seen one of them used to unload sea freight. The CTV vessels were named Oefi - 464923 and Trumpi – 464921. During the December unloading I watched the unloading, Oefi was used to transfer cars from the ship to shore.

The CTV cargo vessel was first used to unload cargo in December 2025. I have heard that the white transfer boat had mechanical issues this month, plus the smaller blue cargo transfer boat was also unable to be used due to issues and also not used in December 2025.

There was no sea-freight deliveries in January 2026, the last delivery of sea-freight from Australia was just before Christmas, December 2025, and the final delivery from New Zealand for 2025 was at the end of November. This time last year, TC Alfred delayed the shipping from Australia until March due to the large ocean swells which disrupted the MV Norfolk schedules.

Norfolk Forwarding shipping scheduled for the MV Norfolk shows the next deliveries will be from Auckland scheduled for March 2026. There has been a couple of months, without any New Zealand sea-freight deliveries, but I did see some New Zealand dairy products come on the Air Chathams charter flight on 8 February 2026.

We wish the MV Norfolk crew a safe journey on their voyage to Auckland New Zealand, and their next trip to Norfolk Island which is scheduled for March 2026. Let’s hope the MV Norfolk has smooth seas, after the stormy weather delaying many voyages during 2025.

Thank you for the lighterage crew, truck drivers and shipping company for your continued skills unloading the cargo. Here are a couple of photos of MV Norfolk anchored at Kingston, as the lighterage crew unloaded the cargo of the sea-freight on Wednesday 17 December 2025.
