MV Norfolk, December 2024 from Brisbane

This week, on 11 December 2024, the MV Norfolk arrived with a delivery from Brisbane. This is the final delivery from Australia for the year, and the last delivery from Auckland was just a few weeks ago. Last week, I checked the shipping app, and the vessel was sitting near Brisbane waiting to pick up the cargo from the port and once it entered the port, it was reported to only take about 8 hours to load and set sail for Norfolk Island.

The freight vessel is delivering Australia cargo for the local Norfolk Island community. It was great news that this scheduled delivery was changed to 14 December, which will hopefully mean that Australian Postal deliveries have arrived in time for Christmas.

The ship arrived on Wednesday evening and anchored at Cascade Bay, on the calmest side of the island, for the unloading of the cargo. On Thursday morning, the local Norfolk Island Radio staff announced the MV Norfolk was unloading the freight at Cascade Pier. The lighterage crew will make quick work unloading the cargo, it normally only takes a couple of days to complete the transfer of the sea freight from ship to shore, so I expect that by Friday afternoon, the crew will have completed the unloading of the cargo, though this is depending on the weather.

Once the unloading is completed, I expect the crew may have a break for the Christmas and New Year. The next deliveries are expected to be from Auckland, for the first deliveries for 2025

later in January 2025. The last delivery of sea freight from Brisbane was in October 2024 and previous delivery from New Zealand was in late November 2024.

The Norfolk Island Shipping schedule shows as from December 2024 for the MV Norfolk. The vessel is scheduled to have a regular shipping service from Brisbane and Auckland, alternating with back-and-forth voyages. These details are subject to change.
