We all had a wonderful time at the Teddy Bear Picnic last Saturday. Sunshine got the day off to a great start. Lots of Lions of Norfolk Island Members and helpers spent the morning setting up with tables and chairs plus Teddies and Balloons tied all over the park. As soon as the children started turning up at 1pm the afternoon turned murky and light rain began to fall. What a shame!
However, the children weren't daunted by the wet weather and played happily on the lovely new playground equipment, joining in Katherine's 'Bubble Majic', chasing bubbles all over the lovely green lawn. Some sat on a mat under the trees and were read to by Yellow Teddy Bev. Others enjoyed colouring the Teddy on competition posters. Teddy Bear Headbands were available if wanted and at 2pm Sausage Sandwiches and fruit drinks were handed out to children and parents queueing up in the rain! Heavier rain didn't daunt the children and they lined up for a Lucky Dip surprise gift and lastly they participated in 'Dancing in the Rain' to Teddy Bear songs, with spot prizes given out. They all had great fun but were a little damp by the time it all ended!
We couldn't hold the Teddy Bear Parade for those who brought their favourite Teddies with them. And we couldn't judge the colouring competition in the rain. Never mind, the coloured-in posters are now on show in The Mall and winners decided upon.
On Tuesday night the members of the Lions Club of Norfolk Island at their meeting decided the day had been a great success and that it would be made an Annual Event!
