Lexus Melbourne Cup Week 2025

The Melbourne Cup is held on the first Tuesday in November and this week on Tuesday 4 November is Melbourne Cup Day, the multimillion Melbourne Cup “the race that stops the nation”!

This is a famous horse race at Flemington Racetrack in Melbourne Victoria which I read started in 1861. This year is the 165^th running of the Australian thoroughbred horse race. There have been many winners over the years, and the first winner was Archer in 1861 and 1862, with other famous horses like Far Lap in 1930. Last year's winner was Knight’s Choice, with jockey Robbie Dolan winning the 2024 Melbourne Cup, beating Warp Speed on the line to claim the $8 Million feature race at Flemington. The racehorse, numbered 11, Knight’s Choice trainers are John G Symons and Sheila Laxon. This was jockey Robbie Dolan, first time racing in the Melbourne Cup.

The Melbourne Cup horse race is a 3200-metre race for three-year-old thoroughbred horses. 2025 Melbourne Cup race is sponsored by Lexus, and this year marks the 23rd year of the partnership with the Victoria Racing Club. The Melbourne Cup Carnival will take place from 1 to 8 November 2025 at Flemington Racecourse.

Sweepstakes is a tradition for the Melbourne Cup, during previous years, there are always busy volunteers in the Foodland Mall every year selling sweepstakes, and many workplaces around Australia and New Zealand run a sweepstake every year, with lucky dip horses for everyone who enters.

This year the Norfolk Island Red Cross have advised they will NOT be selling Sweepstakes in The Norfolk Mall for the 2025 Melbourne Cup. Sadly, they do not have enough members attend the recent AGM to run Red Cross on Norfolk Island.

There is TAB race beating at the Norfolk Island RSL and if you do gamble and place a bet, please do so responsibly.

The Norfolk Island Bowling Club

If you would like to watch the race, the Melbourne Cup can be viewed on the Bowling Club television screen at the Norfolk Island Bowling Club.

I contacted The Norfolk Island Leagues Club, and they are closed on Tuesdays. The club let me know they would be closed on the Melbourne Cup Race Day. For more information check with the club manager and staff.

Melbourne Cup Day, Tuesday, 4 November, is a public holiday in Victoria. During the big spring carnival festival week there are traditionally many events in Melbourne, and the big one is race day on Tuesday. There are competitions for best dressed in the field and many elegant fashion dresses and suits will be worn on the day.

The Lexus Melbourne Cup 2025 race time is 3pm, Melbourne time.

Here on Norfolk Island the race will be 4pm.

The time in Sydney 3pm, Brisbane 2pm and New Zealand 5pm.

I am sure the race will be watched by people across Australia and across the ditch in New Zealand and around the world.

For 2025, Nine Network will be broadcasting and streaming the Lexus Melbourne Cup carnival, including Melbourne Cup Day.
