Kingston Seawall Upgrade at Slaughter Bay

28 February 2024

Last year a stone wall was repaired at Slaughter Bay, this seawall is next to the steps down to the popular swimming area. I started taking photographs of the works area in October 2023 and recorded the progress of the tradesmen as they strengthened and rebuilt the seawall which has been impacted from stormy seas over the years. Previously for temporary protection, sand had been added to the area, to reduce the impact of high seas.

Over the months, rocks were added and then a strong lower wall was constructed by the stone masons. Once the wall was completed the surrounding upper beach area had sand added to support the new wall. The finished work looks sturdy and should last for many years to come.

The workmen are now working at the Lime Kiln end of Slaughter Bay and once again I am photographing the area and will share those images when the tradesman have completed that wall and the steps area.

The first Slaughter Bay seawall was completed during November 2023 and over the summer the community enjoy the area and sometimes I saw people sitting on the lower wall and enjoying the sheltered sandy area along the beach.

Here are a few photos I took late last year of the construction and the finished seawall
