Just as we all need to learn how to read and write, it’s becoming increasingly important for everyone to have the skills and experience required to use digital and AI technologies effectively.
WAGNI proudly presents Tracey Spicer as the guest speaker at this year’s International Women’s Day breakfast. Join Tracey and WAGNI members on Monday the 18th of March at the Golf Club from 7-9am to celebrate International Women’s Day with an Olive Branch finger food breakfast.
Tracey Spicer AM is a multiple Walkley Award winning author, journalist and broadcaster who has anchored national programs for ABC TV and radio, Network Ten and Sky News.
The inaugural national convenor of Women in Media, Tracey is one of the most sought-after keynote speakers and emcees in Australia. In 2019 she was named the NSW Premier’s Woman of the Year, accepted the Sydney Peace Prize alongside Tarana Burke for the Me Too movement, and won the national award for Excellence in Women’s Leadership through Women and Leadership Australia.
In 2018, Tracey was chosen as one of the Australian Financial Review’s 100 Women of Influence, winning the Social Enterprise and Not-For-Profit category. For her 30 years of media and charity work, Tracey has been awarded the Order of Australia.
Highlights of her outstanding career include writing, producing, and presenting documentaries on women and girls in Bangladesh, Kenya, Uganda, Papua New Guinea and India. She is an Ambassador for ActionAid, the Ethnic Business Awards and Purple Our World, and Patron of the Pancreatic Cancer Alliance.
We are so very lucky to have the opportunity to hear Tracey discuss the concepts in her book, Man-Made: How the bias of the past is being built into the future. These include deciphering the technological shifts in society, protecting ourselves from discrimination contained in artificial intelligence systems, and how we can work together to create an equitable future for all.
Currently, nearly 1 in 4 Australians do not have the essential digital skills or affordable access to digital devices they need to fully participate in today’s society. Women, people over 50, and people with disability are more likely to be digitally excluded and to have problems accessing and understanding the digital world. WAGNI recognises the need to increase confidence, skills, and online safety in our community. Following International Women’s Day, WAGNI Wednesday’s (the last Wednesday of each month) will kick off with a conversation on digital safety.
Tickets to see Tracey and enjoy the International Women’s Day breakfast are $20.00 each, and can be pre purchased from Prinke Eco Store, Paw Paws Pump Shed, The Olive and directly from WAGNI members.
Stay tuned for more news and information on this topic as we explore over the coming months how to empower Norfolk Islanders to use the internet and everyday technology to thrive in our increasingly digital world.
