Easter weekend has arrived, and I am sure many of the community will be ready to relax with families and friends, and there will be many busy kitchens preparing wonderful treats for Easter gatherings. This year the public holidays are Easter Friday 7 April and Monday 10 April is also a Public Holiday.
Friday is Hot Cross Bun Day, and the bakers had a busy Thursday night baking hundreds of tasty traditional Hot Cross Buns. Children will be excited that Easter Egg time and the fun of Easter Egg hunts and chocolate treats has arrived.
The Bounty Centre will have the Easter Bunny visiting on Saturday morning between 10 and 11am. Bring your family along to this special annual event organised by the Bounty Centre and the children are always excited when they meet the special Easter Bunny who will have Easter Eggs to share.
This long weekend is also a busy time at the Norfolk Island Churches. On Friday morning there were Easter Church Services and Thursday evening at the Salt Mill, near Emily Bay at Kingston, there was also a special gathering organised, to tell the stories of the women of the cross. I expect if it rained, they would meet at the Church instead or out at St Barnabas Chapel community hall.
Early on Sunday morning there will be a combined church service up Mt Pitt starting at 6am, fingers crossed for settled weather so everyone can enjoy the sunrise and service. There will be Saturday and Sunday Church Services at the Norfolk Island Churches. Please visit the local churches for times or listen to the Norfolk Island Radio public notices with the details.
The full moon will be on Thursday, and I wonder if the skies will clear so we can enjoy the Norfolk Island magical skies, but the forecast has a few rainy days
during the Easter weekend.
If you need more Hot Cross Buns, the bakeries will be preparing more on Saturday and Chocolate treats are available at Foodland Supermarket, P&R, also at Sweeties, Serious Chocolate, Pete’s Place, and other stores in town.
Easter weekend is also the Lions Biggest BBQ, a fundraiser for Child Cancer. If you see the volunteers set up at Kingston on Easter Monday, please stop and support this worthy fundraiser.
Have a Happy Easter and enjoy the break if you manage to get a few days off work.
