This week in fishing news from Norfolk Island it’s been windy, but the previous week was exceptional. After months of reasonably settled weather to fish in every few days or so we now find ourselves in the middle of a stiff easterly airstream that probably won’t give us any decent fishing days for weeks.
The week before this wind started though had some beautiful calm days and good fishing so we all have some memories and some fillets in the freezer to get us through till that next calm day.
Most people chased our delicious Trumpeter (Redthroat Sweetlip) but there were many other species caught that week including Bar Cod, Kingfish, White Trevally, Amberjack, Yellowfin Tuna and even some Mahi Mahi. Whaler Sharks were still an issue when out fishing taking hooked fish and destroying tackle and gear but they do make a great tourist attraction back at the piers while we clean our catch.
The week ahead will be spent on land by yours truly catching up on many hours of maintenance and starting the process of another boat shed, because who doesn’t want another shed?
