Greenwood Fishing Adventure

21 February 2024

This week in fishing news from Norfolk Island it has still been windy but there has been a little bit of fishing going on. After a break of some 16 days between trips I made the decision to fish last Monday as the swell had finally died down to a couple of metres and the winds to a bearable 15 knots.

Not the sort of sea conditions I like fishing in but hey when it’s the best day in a 3 week period I’ll take it. Apart from the sea conditions and on and off showers of rain the fishing was pretty good and I managed to get a reasonable catch mostly consisting of our delicious Trumpeter (Redthroat Sweetlip).

I tried jigging for Kingfish but the whaler sharks wanted them more than me and proceeded to demolish them before I could land any. Back on shore and the rock fishermen have been catching a feed of Kingfish and Trevally with the occasional Trumpeter too. Beware of the slippery rocks and swells if you brave the climbs down to our rock ledges. The week ahead looks promising with some light winds and what should be some very calm days, watch this space next week for more fishy news from Norfolk Island.
