Greenwood Fishing Adventure

01 August 2025

This week in fishing news from Norfolk Island we found some great quality and tasty fish. After more wind and rain the weather forecasts showed Sunday as being’The Day’, the day every fishermen on the island was waiting for to get out on the water again and wet a line.

Right up to late Saturday night the forecast was for winds of under 5 knots and sunny conditions but it had other plans and like so many days this year it soon turned for the worse. Still most people went anyway as it was still the best day in a couple of week period.

After a long cold journey early in the morning my mate and I found ourselves battling Sharks more than fish but were soon rewarded with some beauties. Two big snapper going 20 and 30lb, a 5ft Wahoo and a very rare but tasty Blue Maori Cod. After this we dropped a nice Yellowfin and then went for Redthroat Sweetlip where it proved to be slow going until the afternoon tide change.

Other boats saw Humpback Whales and Dolphins while out fishing and reported similar catches. The forecast ahead is similar with just a single day where boats will get out before yet another front of rain, heavy rain and some serious swells.
