23 September 2021

Bring on the golf as they say, and this weekend is set to be another action-packed one. One of our most popular days of the year, Foodland Day will be played on Saturday, followed by the 36-hole NIO Foursomes Championships on Sunday. Goodluck to all players and may the weather and the golf be kind to us all.

Don’t forget the AGM will be held THIS MONDAY 27th September 2021, 7pm at the Golf Club. The AGM sees the Club wrap up the year that was, and look forward to the year ahead. It is a good opportunity to be involved in the Club’s progress, stay up to date with what’s been happening behind the scenes, and help to establish plans for the future – and don’t be deterred, this can all happen within a fairly short time-frame, so come along and show your support.

As we head into the AGM, we must give a big thank you to the 2020-2021 Board of Management for their contribution to the Club in their various roles over the past 12 months. Thank you to President Paul Shorty Kiernan, Vice President & Treasurer Belinda Grube, Secretary Rory Brennan, Men’s Club Captain Bruce Lockhart, Ladies Club Captain Edie Christian, Course & Greens Director Richard Cottle and House & Social Director Kerry Robertson. Thank you all for the time and effort you have invested into the Club. A very big thank you also to the Men’s and Ladies’ Match Committees and the House & Social Committee members for committing to these roles, and for all you have done for the Club during this time.

Competition Results:

Last Sunday saw over 40 golfers take to the course for a single stableford competition. With no comp on the previous Wednesday due to the weather, and golf postponed on Saturday out of respect for the Knapton family, golfers enjoyed a Sunday comp in fine conditions.

A good round for Jeht Nobbs saw him a clear winner in the men’s competition with 43 points, from Brooke Watson in second with 39 points and Sean Ellard in third on a countback to visiting golfer James Buttenshaw with 38 points. Naomi Thompson won a countback from Caroline Miratana to win the ladies competition, both with 37 points, and Pat McCoy took out third place with 33 points.

The Pro-Pin 4th went to Sean Ellard 313cm, the All-In 9th/18th James Buttenshaw 171cm and the Men’s 2nd Shot 1st/10th Shane Evans 76cm. The ladies’ 2nd shot 7th/16th was not struck.

The Island Plumbing & Gas Putt Off was not struck either, so the jackpot climbs to $100.00 with thanks to Andrew Barnett of Island Plumbing & Gas.

It was another wet and windy Wednesday unfortunately, and with the forecast looking unfavourable most golfers took cover and avoided the course. There were 10 brave (not sure if brave is the right word…?) golfers who took to the course despite the rain for an afternoon of stroke and putting. Congratulations to Fred Howe who won the day, and the putting. Hopefully the weather improves and the rain starts to fall only on non-golf days for a while! Next Wednesday will be an individual stableford.

Social Golf News:

Despite a passing shower, our Tuesday Vets had another enjoyable afternoon of social golf. Congratulations to Becky Nobbs who claimed first place this week with 22 points from Graham Cock in second with 21 points and Stephen Cordaiy in third with 19 points.

Social Vets is played every Tuesday afternoon teeing off at 2.30pm, everyone is welcome for an afternoon of golf and laughter.

The Norfolk Island Mechanical Chook Run and Junior Choc Run were both cancelled last week due to the weather. Fingers crossed for more favourable conditions this week. The Norfolk Chook Run and Junior Choc Run are played every Friday afternoon for a very social afternoon of golf, and with some warmer weather and longer days just around the corner, it’s a great way to start your weekend. Everyone is welcome. Enquiries to the Pro Shop 23603.
