During the past month, Colleen and her friends and family have been fundraising for very good causes. Colleen Vincent decided to cut her beautiful long hair and donate her long plaits to Child Cancer Australia. Her lovely hair would be used to make wigs for children with cancer, a very special gift for those young children suffering from effects from cancer treatment. Donations like this can assist in supplying cancer kids with wigs to help them feel normal again.
As well as this special donation, Colleen also decided to raise money for the Norfolk Island Sunshine Club. This group raises funds to ‘put some sunshine into the lives of our elders’ on Norfolk Island with a clear purpose of helping our senior citizens. I read that throughout the years, the Sunshine Club has received many generous donations from individuals, groups, organisations, and island fundraising events held in our Norfolk Island community.
Colleen decided to also assist with the fundraising for the damaged Fisherman’s Hut at Phillip Island, which was destroyed during TC Gabrielle last month in February 2023.
Sunday evening at Munna’s during the big fundraising evening for the Fisherman’s Hut was the countdown to Colleen’s haircut. Local hairdresser, Mikiela Christian Reynolds, from Mikiela Hair Boutique on Bamboras Road, gracefully brushed and prepared Colleen’s hair for the big cut. With hair ties and ponytails prepared with a warm breeze blowing, Colleen sat with the band playing music and a big smile on her face. With cameras and videos recording this special event, Colleen hair was snipped, and her long locks were now ready to be sent to Ella Wigmakers, an Australia wigs company, to help children with cancer. Mikiela then set to work to trim Colleen’s hair into a new style and I captured a lovely photo of

I can confirm the amount of money, which was raised was over $800 for the Fisherman’s Hut and over $1000 for the Sunshine Club of Norfolk Island. Thank you to everyone who kindly donated money and supported Colleen with the fundraising, and generous donation of her long hair to child cancer.
Colleen told me that she has been growing her hair for over 13 years, and we all say a big thank you to Colleen, what an amazing contribution you have made to so many in need, as well supporting the Norfolk Island Sunshine Club and the Fisherman’s Hut rebuild fundraiser.
Here are a few photos I took on Sunday evening at Kingston when Mikiela cut Colleen’s hair during the Fisherman’s Hut community fundraiser.
