Fuel Tanker Anthas, July 2025

This week the fuel tanker vessel Anthas arrived on 28 July and anchored at Cascade Bay. The Anthas is an oil/chemical tanker, and sails under the flag of Luxembourg. It is a new ship, built in 2023. I have read that this Anthas had sailed from Departure from Nuku Alofa Tonga on 23 July 2025 and arrived here on Norfolk Island 28 July 2025.

I drove to Cascade Pier on Monday morning and photographed the vessel as it was anchored in the bay with a few swells rolling in at high tide. On Tuesday the Anthas had sailed to the Eastern side of Norfolk Island and anchored at Ball Bay then commenced the unloading of the fuel. I visited Ball Bay on Tuesday afternoon and took a few photos as the crew were organising the pipes from the ship to shore ready for the unloading of the fuel.

The system is interesting to watch, the fuel ship anchors in the bay and hose pipes are floated to the shore and the workmen pump the fuel from the ship to the storage tanks above the bay, just up the steep roadway. The staff works through the night, once the work starts say it can take up to 30 hours to unload the vessel.

I last reported on the Fuel Tanker Anthas, arriving early this year February, and due to sea conditions did not unload until early March 2025.

Here are photos of the Fuel Tanker Anthas I took on Monday at Cascade Pier and at Ball Bay on Tuesday afternoon. On 30 July, Wednesday evening I checked my shipping app and the Anthas had departed and was sailing to Fiji.

I also checked out MV Norfolk which is due to sail Auckland to Norfolk Island. During the past few weeks, it has been anchored in the Auckland coastal area. I expect it is waiting for settled weather for their journey to Norfolk Island.
